Hannah Abbasi, MY NYC Bridge Program Coordinator

IMG_1308Hannah comes to MCN as a graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s in Religious Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and History.

After graduating, she attended a conference for Muslim converts in Qom, Iran, subsequently staying to study Farsi in Jame’at Al-Zahra for six months. In mid-2012 Hannah returned to the US to work as an AmeriCorps *VISTA at CitySquash in Bronx, New York. After her year working with underserved youth, she again traveled to the Middle East, this time stopping in Lebanon for three months and then Egypt. In Egypt she privately tutored English and mathematics and worked as a Social Media Manager at a small start-up. After a year and a half, Hannah resettled in New York City again, this time working at the Arab American Family Support Center in their new Queens SONYC after-school program.
Hannah hopes to return to school in the near future to procure a PhD in Counseling and Adolescent Psychology and Conflict Resolution. She hopes to continue to work with youth from Muslim and Middle Eastern backgrounds and those from conflict regions.
