New York, NY — On Wednesday, January 25th President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order targeting undocumented immigrants. He is expected to sign another Executive Order banning people from Muslim-majority countries from entry into the United States. The ban would also halt refugees fleeing from persecution and war, from entering the country. These are some of the many discriminatory and divisive policies that are likely to continue under the Trump administration.
Muslim Community Network is committed to our nation’s values of religious freedom and the rights of all individuals to be treated equally. These policies will divide families and are a direct attack on the values of this great city of New York which has always been a beacon of light for immigrants, refugees and all people seeking hope and a better life. This Executive Order flies in the face of the American values we hold dear and goes against key tenets of our Constitution.
“Now more than ever, we as Americans cannot sit idly by and allow policies that undermine our democracy and strike fear into the hearts of our families, friends and neighbors go unchallenged,” said Christina Tasca, Executive Director of Muslim Community Network. “We stand together strongly rooted in love, compassion, and the commitment to dignity, fairness, and respect.”
We urge elected officials and community members to stand united against hate, fear and bigotry and take steps to prevent criminalization of people solely based on faith and national origin.
