Youth Civic Fellowship

APPLICATIONS TO JOIN OUR FALL 2022 COHORT IS OPEN

 

15 students across NYC are selected each cohort for civic leadership and advocacy training. Students will attend 8 weeks of virtual and in-person sessions, then student will work collaboratively for 4 weeks on their desired civics project. To compensate for your hard work and time, we provide a single $300.00 stipend and cover all program related costs.

Qualifications

  • Be a high school student in New York City (10th, 11th or 12th grade)
  • Be a civic-minded individual with a passion for social justice
  • Have a passion for MCN’s mission and vision
  • Be available on Tuesdays after school from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM and one Saturday a month for in-person (see schedules for reference)

Process

  2. MCN will get back to you with a response by October 9, 2022
  3. Program begins on October 29, 2022

Lamis
Idris

Lamis Idris is a 11th grade student at Edward R Murrow High School. Lamis describes herself as a African Muslim hijabi and liberal feminist, who is outspoken and feels empowered by her Hijab and religion. She hopes to break down hijab stereotypes!

Ummatun Ahmed

Ummatun Ahmed is a 11th grader at Al Noor High School in Brooklyn. She describes herself an environmentalist, and avid reader, and a peacemaker.

Angel Legaspi

Angel Legaspi is a 11th grade student at James Madison High School in Brooklyn.

Toaha Muhammad

Toaha Muhammad is a 11th grader at The Bronx High School of Science. He describes himself as a peacemaker, Muslim and Bengali-American.

Abida Khan

Abida Khan is a 11th grade student at the High School for Environmental Studies in Brooklyn. Abida is a self-described rebel, is passionate about human rights and mental health. She is creative and artistic!

Khawng Tun

Khawng Tun is an 11th grader at James Madison High School in Brooklyn. Khawng describes himself as persistent and passionate against racism and xenophobia.

Tamana Jabbar

Tamana Jabbar is a 11th grader at Al Mamoor Islamic School in Queens. She is a self-described straight forward and honest person. She loves basketball and politics. She fervently follows elections and local politics.

Maimunna Muntaha

Maimunna Muntaha is a 11th grader at Townsend Harris High School in Brooklyn. She describes herself as a feminist, liberal, enjoys traveling and cooking, and is an extrovert!

Emre Turkmen

Emre Turkmen is a 10th grade student at James Madison High School. He describes himself as a student, volunteer, debater, and avid traveler!

Muddsar Yassen

Muddsar Yassen is in the 11th grade at James Madison High School. He identifies as a pakistaini-american, who is family oriented. He describes himself as a hustler, reformist, self-made, hard working and optimistic!

Hummairah Chowdhury

Hummairah Chowdhury is a 10th grader at the Bronx High School of Science. She describes herself as a volunteer, debater, environmentalist, liberal, feminist, foodie, passionate, and family oriented.

Riskiya Vahobova

Riskiya Vahobova is a 11th grade student at James Madison High School. She is the team captain on her school’s cross-country team. She describes herself as a feminist, foodie, trilingual Muslim, singer, athlete, and lactose intolerant baker!

Noor Sukkar

Noor Sukkar is a 11th grader at James Madison High School in Brooklyn. Noor recently moved to NYC from Florida. She describes herself as a feminist, mental health advocate, and shopaholic!
