Annual Children of Abraham Peace Vigil 2022
On the twenty-first anniversary of September 11, 2001, Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of all faith and goodwill will gather, united against division, violence, and hatred for a peace vigil. As we emerge from pandemic isolation in our Covid-epicenter city, we remember the hatred and violence perpetrated in these years–against Asian and Asian Americans, against Black and Brown people, against Muslims, Jews, immigrants, and other minority groups. We bring our faiths, some of which share the same roots of the scriptural Abraham, and their teachings of peace, love and fierce respect for one another’s lives and choices. In a year that has been filled with so much violence motivated by hate, we invite you to come celebrate love and join us in a collective practice that reclaims this day as one of unity and peace.
The vigil will take place at the UN Public Plaza starting at 2:00 PM. Different religious institutions, faith leaders, community organizations and youth groups will be present to learn about each other’s faith and cultivate a society where we practice embracing and loving each other’s beliefs. The ultimate purpose of this vigil is to promote peace and love between individuals of different faith groups and to stand against hateful narratives that divide us and incite violence.
Activities Include: Vigil Prayer, Press Briefing, Art and Performances by Light refreshments will be provided.
