As we near the end of Ramadan, MCN proudly celebrates the success of its Iftar on the Go program, having distributed over 2,000 meals to families in need throughout the month. This initiative, made possible by the generous support of Islamic Relief USA and the NYC Comptroller Brad Lander's Office, provided hot, nutritious meals to individuals and families during the sacred month of Ramadan.
Thank you to all those who participated, volunteered, and supported the initiative. Together, we’ve made a significant impact in our community. We look forward to continuing this effort next Ramadan and beyond.

Ramadan is a time to come together in compassion, and we are grateful for the generous support of Islamic Relief USA and the NYC Comptroller Brad Lander’s Office. With their partnership, we’ve been able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many families this Ramadan.

Engaging NYC’s Muslim Community at Mayoral Candidate Forum
MCN, as a proud member of Emgage’s Civic Engagement Table, co-hosted a Mayoral Candidate Forum for NYC’s Muslim community, offering an invaluable opportunity to connect with six Democratic candidates ahead of the June primary. This event was a powerful step in promoting civic engagement, empowering community members, and ensuring that the voices of NYC’s Muslim community are heard and represented in the upcoming election.
We are committed to creating spaces for political dialogue, fostering awareness, and encouraging participation in the democratic process. This forum was an essential moment to engage with candidates, ask important questions, and ensure that our collective concerns are addressed in the lead-up to the primary.

First Annual Muslim American Legislative Breakfast at NYS Capitol
MCN proudly participated in the First Annual Muslim American Legislative Breakfast at the New York State Capitol during Caucus Weekend, a historic event focused on engaging in critical conversations about issues that directly impact Muslim American communities. This breakfast brought together influential community leaders and elected officials to discuss policies and initiatives aimed at supporting the needs and rights of Muslim Americans.
The event featured esteemed speakers including Emgage’s Heba Khalil, Dr. Debbie Almontaser, United Way’s Abdullah Younus, Afrikana’s Adama Bah, and MCN’s very own Executive Director, Husein Yatabarry. Alongside them were key officials such as NYS Senator Robert Jackson, Assemblyman Charles Fall, NYS AG Letitia James, Assemblyman Zellnor Myrie, NYC Councilwoman Mercedes Narcisse, and NYC Councilman Yusef Salaam.
This significant gathering served as a platform to advocate for the issues and concerns of the Muslim American community, foster cross-cultural dialogue, and strengthen the collaboration between the Muslim community and lawmakers. It was an important moment in our ongoing efforts to ensure that the voices of Muslim Americans are heard and represented in legislative spaces.

Diversity Education
MCN staff conducted a virtual Diversity Education workshop that illuminated the diversity of Islam contextualized with how to best be inclusionary and protect Muslim women who may have been victims of domestic violence. The workshop was for over 50 staff members.

MCN staff and alumni took an international peacebuilding trip to Northern Ireland to tap into ideas of conflict peace and reconciliation. Students and staff took an 8-day journey to find and connect with a deeper part of themselves and humanity.
